Review of Jingle Dress and...Leyla!

Okay, so I actually got these two items on Tuesday. If you read my post that I put up last Friday, you know that I had been very dissapointed by the retirement of GOML Leyla; I had really wanted her. However, I was able to get her by ordering her by phone. I also ordered Kaya's Jingle Dress. Well...I got her. And...yea, her oufit is pretty...her little accessoires are nice...I like her hair and the pearls in it...but her face is UGLY!!! I was so dissapointed by it! She looks like an ugly, 40 year old man...and she looked so pretty online! Well, she at least has a very pretty outfit, and I love her long braids, and the pearls, and the rope of coins, and the head scarf. I think her outfit is my most very favorite of all the Girls of Many Lands dolls! The setting of her story and country are all entirely new to me. And im defintely going to read her story. NOW, on to Kayas Jingle Dress. I love it! Kaya looks beautiful in it. Although one of the 'jingles' was hanging off its thread when I got it, I was able to fix it. It's one of the nicest things Mattel has brought to American Girl!

How strange. My Leyla is gorgeous. I love her Turkish skintone. It's so unique!

Maybe Leyla's loveliness is truly in the eye of the beholder, because I when I received my Leyla two months ago, I also felt a little let down. Her costume and book are wonderful and unique. I enjoyed them, but her skin tone seemed funny to me too. It was sorta yellowish and sallow looking, and not at all like the golden bronze of the AG website photos. I wonder if there were different vinyls used for the same doll face mold. I have no other problem with her and will keep her. While she is not my favorite, she is still a nice doll.

Well, to tell you the truth, I am so glad that some of you don't like Leyla. I had really wanted her and wasn't able to get her. Now I feel a little better! Thanks guys! lol

I think you may be right. All the GOML (Kish) dolls' beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like all of ours except Kathleen and Cecile. They are ugly in the face to me, but my daughter loves them and thinks they are the prettiest. I would sell the Kathleen in a heart beat, but she is my daughter's doll and she absolutely will not part with her. I think Leyla is very pretty, but I can certainly see where you would think she looks like a 40 yr. old man.
